The Tesla Model S Plaid with the new Track Pack has set a new lap record for a production electric vehicle at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife race track in Germany. The car completed the 12.9-mile circuit in a time of 7 minutes and 30.9 seconds, besting the previous record of 7 minutes and 42 seconds set by the Porsche Taycan last year.
The Model S Plaid with the Track Pack features a number of performance upgrades, including carbon fiber wheels, track-focused brakes, and a new suspension system with adjustable dampers. It is powered by three electric motors producing a combined output of 1,020 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been avidly pursuing lap records at the Nürburgring with various Tesla models for several years, and has stated that he is focused on making the Model S Plaid the fastest production car on both the Nürburgring and the Laguna Seca race track in California. The previous production car lap record at the Nürburgring was set by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which completed the circuit in a time of 6 minutes and 43 seconds
